In the story of Medusa (at least in later versions), Poseidon was said to have chased the beautiful girl. After being rejected by Athena he killed two birds with one stone and raped Medusa in Athena's temple. Or she had him willingly. Either way as punishment Medusa was turned into a hideous monster.
